NATIONAL GEOGRAPHIC GEOGRAPHY BEE
January 26, 2012
Central Heights 7th and 8th grade social studies students recently competed in the school level of the 2012 National Geographic Geography Bee. Ninety eight-students competed in 7 rounds and the top ten scorers then competed for a spot in the championship round. Following an additional six rounds, two remained to compete in the championship round.
Merrick Brown (L) won the 3 question championship round in which the first runner up was Jared Oshel (R). Both Merrick and Jared are 8th graders. Merrick will take a 70 question written test which will be sent to Washington, D.C. for scoring. If Merrick has a qualifying score, he will represent Central Heights at the Kansas Geography Bee on April 1, at the Eisenhower Presidential Museum in Abilene, Kansas.
Merrick is the son of Jason and Kelli Brown, Richmond and Lara and Ron Benham, Garnett.
Jared is the son of Amy Oshel and David Oshel, both of Richmond.
