A message from KSHSAA. Please read and watch! There is no doubt, we have an official shortage and need the help of those who employ officials to help recruit new officials. In previous years, teachers made up a large number of our officials, that number has dropped dramatically. Coaches used to officiate sports they didn’t serve as a coach in order to give back to students. Schools want to continue to have teams be able to compete, but we need officials in order to have the games. Please consider showing this video to your students, teachers, parent groups or anyone you feel has the characteristics to be an official. “Without officials it’s JUST RECESS.” https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=5rb726Kfjt4

Phoebe Hutchinson has spent her time here at Central Heights High School participating in Choir, the Talent Show, and has served as a Special Needs Bowling Assistant. After graduation she plans to attend Allen County Community College and pursue her associates degree in music. Following that she would like to continue her education at Kansas University where she will pursue a career in post-secondary music education. Phoebe says her most meaningful experience here at Central Heights has been how the administration and her fellow classmates were willing to provide support when she thought everyone was against her. When asked what advice Phoebe would give to underclassmen it would be, “Don't let people challenge what you know to be true and right. If you have values, if you have thoughts and beliefs, then stand up for them. It doesn't matter who it is, no one has the right to make you feel that your thoughts or ideas or beliefs are insignificant. You are worthy of your feelings and you have every right to shut down anyone who tries to directly put them down. YOU are your OWN person.” Congratulations Phoebe! Keep working hard to achieve your dreams!

Cheyenne Higbie is the daughter of Heath and Theresa Higbie. During her time here at Central Heights High School she participated in Dance, Basketball, Cross County, FFA, 4-H, KJSA, AJSA, KLA, FCCLA, FLBA, Pep Club, Key Club, FCA, Student Council, National Honor Society and FOR Club. Cheyenne will graduate as one of two students who have fully completed the Kansas Scholars Curriculum. After graduation Cheyenne plans to attend a junior college for two years and then transfer to Kansas State University where she will major in Animal Science. She hopes to become a bovine embryo transfer technician or reproductive specialist. When asked what her most meaningful experience at Central Heights was she said that it would have to be all the memories made during extra curricular activities with her friends, coaches, and teachers. All the trips, activities, practices, studying, and the amazing people I have met along the way have made my high school experience something I will remember fondly. If Cheyenne could offer one piece of advice to the underclassmen it would be, “First off, do not be afraid to take chances. No Regrets. Your goals should scare you. Even if in the end things don’t turn out the way you hoped, you will feel so much better knowing that you gave it your best effort and will not need to worry about “what if.” Enjoy the last few years of being a kid!” Congrats Cheyenne! We are so proud of your accomplishments and cannot wait to see what your future holds.

For the final meet of the regular season, a trip south to NE Arma always serves as an opportunity to compete against schools we don’t regularly see. In some cases, the competition level pushed us to be our very best and to continue building on previous skills. Taryn and Alexis once again paced the girls team by medaling in all of their events. I can’t say how proud I am of them and their drive and desire, day in and day out, to compete for the tops spots. The boys also set several more personal records across the throws, jumps, sprints, and distance races which has now brought the season total of personal best performances to 80. The growth at all grade levels is incredible and while some are starting to wrap up their high school careers over the next few weeks, others are only just beginning to find their place in it all. Next on the schedule is the Flint Hills League meet at Osage City on May 14th. ** Denotes Medalist PR = Personal Record NA = info not provided by meet director Girls Javelin **3rd - Alexis Haynes 97-00 NA - Nikita d’Augereau 45-00 Girls Discus NA - Nikita d’Augereau 45-10 (PR) Girls 100m **3rd - Taryn Compton 13.67 Girls 200m **3rd - Taryn Compton 29.04 Girls 300m Hurdles **1st - Taryn Compton 49.97 Boys Long Jump NA - Carson Wood 16-04 (PR) Boys Discus 6th - Luke Brown 99-09.5 NA - Aiden Welch 95-09 (PR) NA - Ryan Hale 71-01 Boys Shot Put NA - Aiden Welch 34-00.25 (PR) NA - Ryan Hale 26-08.50 (PR) Boys 100m NA - Jesse Wharton 12.52 (PR) Boys 200m 5th - David Craft 24.81 (PR) NA - Jesse Wharton 25.87 (PR) NA - Carson Wood 26.34 Boys 400m **4th - David Craft 56.21 (PR) Boys 1600 **3rd - Luke Cotter 5:04.78 7th - Dakota Kuczmarski 5:28 (PR) Boys 4x800 **1st - Cotter, Kuczmarski, Craft, Wood 9:38.31
