CONGRATULATIONS to Hannah Jumet for officially signing with Emporia State on a Music Talent Scholarship! She also accepted a scholarship from ESU for playing in the marching band. 💛🖤
This quarantine has made scholarship signings look a bit different (she signed last night in her home), but CHS is incredibly proud of you, and we are celebrating with you! (from at least 6 ft away) 💛💙

Be wary of people soliciting you saying they are from, or working with, the school.
I understand telemarketing calls showing Central Heights as the caller are being received in the district. As I stated in the call last evening, if the school is involved my name or one the principals’ name will be directly attached.
We are not selling bracelets over the phone to raise money for the school.
If it isn’t me, one of the principals, or a staff member you know the call is a scam no matter what caller ID says.

If you are not receiving the recorded phone calls from Mr. Spencer contact Karrie Matile, kmatile@usd288.org or Kim Kraft, kkraft@usd288.org. These calls will be essential for you and your family to stay current with updates specific to Central Heights.

Did you know that the Franklin County Children's Coalition is providing FREE LUNCHES for school-aged children all throughout Franklin County this week? They have partnered with local agencies and there will be a different lunch each day from 12(noon) to 1 at Carnegie in Ottawa. Load up the kiddos and go grab some grub! Thank you to all who are donating!

Here is the official statement from the Franklin County Health Officer concerning the suspension of classroom and extracurricular activities of Franklin County Schools. Mr. Spencer will provide more information for USD 288 later today after further meetings with state officials.

Due to unforeseen circumstances, the Mother-Son dance is being rescheduled for this coming Fall. Look for details in August. We are sorry for any inconvenience this may cause.

Congratulations to these girls for making the 2020-2021 cheer squad!

Update on COVIN-19
We are receiving further guidelines concerning the pandemic. These guidelines will be updated daily, and since we are on Spring Break I will not post specific information right now, but I will share the link to the KDHE K-12 School guidance website. You can access this and see the latest guidance as it is posted. http://www.kdheks.gov/coronavirus/toolkit/Interim_Guidance_for_Schools.pdf
Look for updates from me near the end of the week as we prepare to return to school.
The principals have issued some information to specific groups that will likely be affected after the break. (The Juniors and Seniors concerning prom for example.) We will do our best to keep the updates and postings small and manageable.
Have an enjoyable break and try to enjoy time away from the public with your family.

The Honor Flight "Swinging Through the Decades" Gala scheduled for tomorrow, Saturday March 14 has been RESCHEDULED for SATURDAY MAY 23.
We apologize for any inconvenience this will cause, but the Franklin County Health Department requested we postpone due to COVIN-19 Concerns.

The COVIN-19 outbreak is creating significant confusion and concern. After watching webinars with state officials this afternoon, I feel the need to share what I know.
As of Noon today, Thursday, March 12, there have been three confirmed cases of COVIN-19 in Kansas, and they were all contracted in other places. There has not been a case of the communal spread of the virus in Kansas at this time. (Those that have it, contracted it somewhere else and then came to Kansas.)
The likelihood of Central Heights needing to close is very small. Only the local health department http://www.franklincoks.org/index.aspx?NID=933 or the State of Kansas Department of Health and Environment can order a school closing due to a situation of this nature.
There is now guidance stating that individuals that leave the country should check in with their local health department upon their return. The health department will then advise individuals whether or nor they should subject themselves to a self-imposed 14 day quarantine.
Central Heights basically begins Spring Break at the end of school today. Students do not return until Monday, March 23. Hopefully by that time things will have settled down and we will have a great run to the end of the year.
The best place to stay current is the the Franklin County Health Department website that I linked above. We will not be attempting to stay current while the students are off on Spring Break.
