Dear USD 288 Patrons:
As many of you may or may not know, Central Heights is a chartered Honor Flight hub. We applied for and received ’hub status’ in 2015. We have been taking local veterans to Washington, D.C., to visit their memorials for the past eight years. What makes us unique is that we are one of only eight hubs in the United States that use our students as guardians.
Each year, we take 12 veterans on our trip. We have a selection process where our students apply to be guardians for veterans. It has been very rewarding to watch our students step up and agree to care for and serve their veterans on our two-day trip. In a small way, it has allowed our students and veterans to bridge the generational gap and, at the same time, instill in our students a sense of patriotism.
This trip comes at absolutely no cost to our veterans. Our selected students have been working hard to raise money to fund this trip. If you would like to partner with us by donating, we would be more than grateful!
You can donate by contacting the Central office and talking to Terrie Titus at 785-869-3455.
If you have any questions please contact Tom Horstick at 785-214-0242 or you may email thorstick@usd288.org. Or visit the link for the National office. https://www.honorflight.org/?#
Thank you for considering donating to Central Heights Honor Flight and for your continued support of our school.
It’s a Great Day to be a Viking!
