Class of 2020: Hannah Jumet is the daughter of John and Stephanie Jumet. During her time at Central Heights High School, Hannah participated in Swing Group, Band, Drama, Art Club, Student Council, Scholars' Bowl, Volleyball, and FCA. After graduation, Hannah plans to attend Emporia State University to major in music education. While at Emporia State, Hannah will be a member of the Marching Hornets and receive a Music Talent Scholarship in the amount of $1,200 and a Marching Band Scholarship in the amount of $400. Hannah’s most meaningful experience at Central Heights has been being involved in so many activities. It has given her a chance to really figure out who she is and create new friendships. Hannah’s advice to the underclassmen would be that life is too short to spend it in the dark. If there is something you think might be really cool, like a club or activity, join it! High School is a great time to try new things and figure out who you are. “Don’t waste time trying to be like anybody but yourself because the things that make you strange are the things that make you powerful.” - Ben Platt Congratulations Hannah! We are so proud of you!

Class of 2020: Taylor Jilek is the daughter of Dustin Jilek and Carrie Shaffer. During her time at Central Heights High School, Taylor was an active participant in rodeo. Taylor is a member of the United Rodeo Association and the Kansas High School Rodeo Association. Following graduation, Taylor plans to attend Neosho County Community College to pursue a career in nursing. To prepare for this career Taylor has been participating in a Work-Study Program through AdventHealth Hospital. Taylor’s dedication to nursing and incredible work ethic have earned her the 2020 Olathe Health Healthcare Career Scholarship in the amount of $1,000. When asked what her most meaningful memory at Central Heights was Taylor said it happened during her 8th-grade promotion. She had been hesitant to apply for a Student Council position but at the last minute gave it a try. During her 8th grade promotion, it was announced that she had been selected as a member of the Student Council for the upcoming year. This moment is meaningful to Taylor because it taught her that you never know the outcome if you do not try. Taylor’s advice to the underclassmen would be to never give up on your dreams. When school gets tough, never give up! It will get better! Congratulations Taylor. We cannot wait to see what you accomplish!

An Earth Day Rice Krispie Treat!

Hello community partners,
I'm writing to ask your help in spreading the word - Elizabeth Layton Center is open for business and here to help! We are able to offer safe options for behavioral health treatment during this time of COVID crisis.
I think many people in our community are struggling right now with anxiety, depression, substance cravings and other behavioral health issues. Our world is filled with unprecedented stressors and losses. However, access to ELC services has never been lower than the past month. My concern is that people may be unaware that ELC is open for business, and that we are able to offer treatment options that are both safe and effective.
ELC now offers behavioral health services through Telemedicine (e.g. telephone and televideo methods.) This is very convenient for families, and allows for safe and effective treatment of mental health and substance use needs. New patient admissions, Crisis services, Therapy, Medication management, Peer Support, Case Management and Psychosocial services can all be access via Telemedicine!
We also continue to offer face-to-face services (using COVID precautions) for those who are unable to participate by telephone or televideo. For safety reasons, our doors are now locked, but the public can still access our services if needed. They can phone first, or if they arrive on site our compassionate staff will walk them through the process.
As always, community residents without insurance are eligible for sliding scale fee based services. Crisis services remain available 24/7.
